This course focuses on designing a built environment that supports emergency arrangements for disabled and vulnerable people, which will benefit non-disabled people. Aimed at those designers and building managers looking to design inclusive means of escape for all building occupants and wishing to gain an understanding of fire safety of and storage of electric wheelchairs.
The course is in four parts and takes approximately three hours to complete.
Learners also have access to the ‘Building Safety: The New Era’ course, at no additional charge, and have 30 days to complete the courses.
Description
Target audience
Inspecting Officers and Planning/Building Control Professionals, Responsible Persons, Principal Accountable Persons, Accountable Persons, Building Managers and Fire Professionals.
CPD: 3 hours.
Briefcase Documents: Worked examples and course notes.
Part 1: The Foundations. The Law, relevant guidance documents, British Standards, evacuations strategies and egress assessments. Part 1 also provides practical exercises to assist an understanding of the challenges experienced by disabled people during an evacuation.
Part 2: Delivering Inclusive Fire Safety. The physical environment and how it can be improved to assist vulnerable people to evacuate including:
Fire alarms and fire detection
Fire Suppression
Stairwells & Signage
Lifts
Fire Doors
Refuges
Part 3: Electric Wheelchairs. Fire safety for and storage of electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
Part 4: A Case Study. A case study of a major refurbishment of a high-rise residential, general needs tower block.
Part 5: A Final Review. An opportunity to re-enforce the learning. Learners must achieve an 100% pass rate before the CPD certificate is provided.
